From October 17th to 20th, contemporary art takes hold of the heart of Paris when the capital hosts the Foire Internationale d'Art Contemporain (International Fair of Contemporary Art) at the Grand Palais. The FIAC galleries
The FIAC is, first and foremost, a great showcase for art galleries from around the world. There will be precisely 199 of these exhibiting this year under the magnificent glass roof of the Grand Palais. Gallery owners select the best of their artists to present to visitors. While the majority of the exhibitors present are concerned with contemporary art, a few offer a window on design, publishing and architecture. An exhibition space called the Lafayette sector is dedicated to emerging galleries and their young artists.
The FIAC extramural events
However, the FIAC is not limited to the Grand Palais. Works are exhibited on the Avenue Winston Churchill, in the Jardin des Tuileries, the Place de la Concorde and Place Vendôme. You can also attend Parades for FIAC, a festival combining various artistic disciplines such as dance, poetry, theatre and music held at the Pompidou Centre and the Palais de la Découverte in addition to the Grand Palais and nearby Petit Palais. Finally, Cinéphémère, Conversation Rooms and conferences provide the opportunity to listen to well-regarded experts and various contemporary artists talk about their work and the current trends in the art world.
